About us

The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to more than 141 community agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.

Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB receives, purchases, and distributes 8 M lbs of food each year.


Position overview

The Data Analyst will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions that support the GVFB’s strategic goals. This role will require strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization.

This role will work closely with the Operations Manager, IT/Facilities and Distribution, and the COO on various aspects of business intelligence reporting needs, along with maintaining and improving the data platform to support those needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate regular and ad-hoc analytics reports, providing insights to support organizational decisions;
  • Generate daily, monthly, and quarterly reports to be presented to the Leadership team;
  • Maintain and improve various data platforms, including: ETL processes, data marts, and reporting data sources;
  • Manage the continuous improvement of our Tableau reporting infrastructure;
  • Integrate data from our systems into our data warehouse to produce our “source of truth” for all reporting and analysis;
  • Ensure all stakeholders have access to the data and help to interpret and analyze the data to generate insights;
  • Liaise and assist with proactive reporting to facilitate decision making and assist with new project initiatives;
  • Stay current with new business intelligence technologies, and recommend solutions to improve data analysis and reporting capabilities;
  • Manage external reporting of data to other organizations and non-profit organizations.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field;
  • 2+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or related field;
  • Experience with MySQL, Airbyte, dbt, PostgreSQL, Tableau, PowerBI and Excel;
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc;
  • Advanced SQL skills, and basic understanding of Python and data pipelines;
  • Experience with data visualization and storytelling.
